Philip’s grandparents were musicians, and in the 1940s they had a dance band, his grandmother played the piano and his grandfather the cello. Philip’s grandmother was also a music teacher and regularly played the organ in churches. Despite Philip being very close to his grandmother; Philip showed no interest or aptitude in music as a child. However, after Philip’s grandmother died in 1984 he suddenly felt he had to learn to play an instrument and purchased a Hammond organ. Philip found he could play the instrument with ease and shortly after started to write music.
